Teen Beat with Claire Hillsmith

My first paid piece. For the Phuket Post in Thailand, December 2008.

THOSE funky new tights that all the cool kids around town are wearing are becoming a hot item all around the world.

They come in all styles, colours and patterns, ranging from plain black or white, to fluorescent pink and purple zebra stripes with glitter.

Different places will have different colours, patterns and different prices ranging from 100 to 500 baht, depending on whether you buy them from a market or from a quality clothing shop.

But they’re new, they’re funky and they can be worn for all occasions, whether you’re off to work or you need something to spice up an outfit for a night out.

These tights are a must-have fashion item and they can be found in most shops, or at the markets and they’re relatively cheap – unless you go designer.

Phuket teens are going crazy for them,

“I love them. They’re awesome,” said Karen.

“I love wearing clothes that are all one colour and then tights that completely clash with the rest of my outfit.”

Kirsty said she liked the tights because they came in really bright colours.

“They make you stand out from the crowd with their unique look,” she said.

And they’re a hit with the boys too.

“They look pretty nice, but it depends on who is wearing them and what outfit they are wearing them with,” said Jonathan.

“They don’t always suit everyone but they look great on the girls they do suit.”
